On National Rebuilding Day, Saturday, April 26th, three local homeowners in Dutchess and Ulster County will receive critical home repairs and accessibility modifications at no cost to them, thanks to the efforts of Rebuilding Together Hudson Valley (RTHV) and a coalition of generous volunteers, businesses, and community supporters. The work is part of RTHV’s signature Rebuilding Day program, celebrated each April during National Rebuilding Month, a nationwide initiative that mobilizes thousands of volunteers to repair homes, revitalize communities, and rebuild lives.
This year’s projects focused on improving safety, accessibility, and quality of life for neighbors in need — including but not limited to income qualified veterans, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and families facing financial hardship. All three homes will receive customized repairs tailored to each homeowner’s unique circumstances, including modifications like the installation of grab bars and railings, stair repair, roofs, windows, electrical repairs, weatherization updates, and other essential repairs that allow residents to safely age in place.
With the support of approximately 70 volunteers from five local organizations and businesses, as well as generous in-kind donations of materials and services from four local companies, RTHV will be able to make a lasting impact in just one day. Volunteers include skilled tradespeople, first-time participants, returning supporters, and teams representing corporate and community partners — all coming together with a shared goal: to uplift neighbors and strengthen the fabric of the Hudson Valley.
RTHV staff, board members, and elected officials will be on-site throughout the day, lending support and helping to lead project efforts across all three homes. Darcy McCourt, RTHV Executive Director emphasized the importance of the day, “Rebuilding Day is a powerful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together. These projects go far beyond home repairs — they restore dignity, independence, and peace of mind. We are proud to stand alongside our volunteers and partners in service of our neighbors.”
Rebuilding Together Hudson Valley has been a trusted nonprofit presence in the region for over three decades. Since our founding 33 years ago, the organization has repaired over 1,100 homes and community spaces throughout the area, impacting thousands of residents. Though historically focused on Dutchess County, RTHV expanded into Ulster County in 2024 in response to growing community needs — and continues to build new partnerships and outreach in both counties.
National Rebuilding Month, observed annually in April, is a nationwide call to action by the Rebuilding Together affiliate network. Each year, affiliates across the country unite to serve their communities, delivering essential repairs and modifications to help neighbors live in safe and healthy homes. Whether it's installing grab bars for older adults, repairing Page 2 of 2 roofs or revitalizing our community, these life-changing repairs reinforce our ongoing commitment and belief that everyone deserves a secure, safe and stable place to live. This year alone, Rebuilding Together affiliates will complete hundreds of similar projects in cities and towns from coast to coast.
Locally, RTHV’s National Rebuilding Day on April 26th would not be possible without the dedication of its community. The organization wishes to extend its sincere thanks to the volunteers, businesses, and supporters who helped bring this year’s projects to life. Their time, skills, and generosity made a tangible difference in the lives of three local households — and their impact will be felt for years to come.
